Gender, Body and Sexuality
Surprisingly few students have received thorough and useful sex education before attending Silkeborg Højskole. Long-term studies show that a healthy relationship with gender, body, and sexuality is closely linked to overall well-being for most people.
In this class you will have the chance to catch up on what you might have missed – and much more – in the company of other young people and experienced teacher and sex educator Mette Øyås Madsen. Mette has extensive experience in creating a safe and trusting environment that accommodates students’ differences and supports their development at their own pace.
We will explore themes such as identity and language, ideals and norms, body shame and body positivity, femininity and masculinity, anatomy and physiology, sensuality and intimacy, emotions and communication, desire and pleasure, boundaries and consent, power and privilege, dealing with rejection, as well as fantasies and pornography. A key part of the teaching is active student participation, ensuring there’s always room to work with topics you and your classmates find important.
Relevant music, literature, and film is introduced, and in each session we will explore bodywork activities such as sensory training, relaxation, massage, or dance.
Throughout the course, you will gain knowledge, terminology, and practical tools to help you navigate this exciting yet complex area. You may discover that you have far more in common with others than you might think – and that you have the power to create positive change both for yourself and those around you.
This subject is taught in English.
