Wowen Into Art
Is an oil-painted landscape on canvas more of an artwork than an embroidered landscape on a pillowcase?
In Woven into Art, we explore the intersection between craft and art. Through practical exercises, we experiment with techniques and materials from the world of handicrafts, such as weaving and embroidery. At the same time, we push boundaries and challenge traditions – both in the choice of materials and motifs.
The hands-on exercises are complemented by presentations and discussions about the role of handicrafts in art. We will reflect on topics such as gender roles in art history, where handicrafts have often been seen as women’s work, while “serious art” was considered the domain of men. How has this shaped our perception of artistic value? And how does it look today?
