Study trip to Memphis and New Orleans

We are heading south where the sweet scent of barbecue blends with the sounds of blues and jazz. You are in for a host of experiences that a standard tour of the USA will not provide.

Join us in God’s own country! We are heading south where the sweet scent of barbecue blends with the sounds of blues and jazz. A thick Southern accent asks you, ‘How y’all doin’?’ And you are doing great because you have just fired up 200-horsepower rental car.

Tennesee and Louisiana

Our destinations are the American states of Tennessee and Louisiana, where the cities of Memphis and New Orleans are located. These are two very different cities – one has struggled during covid but has a history like few cities in the world. The other is full of life, though with a significant gap between the upper and lower classes.

In many ways, the U.S. feels familiar to so many Danes but at the same time entirely foreign. Why must you be 21 to buy a Bud Light when you can drive a car at 16 and buy a shotgun on the street at 18 years old?

Memphis Station and The Great Mississippi River

During our stay in the states we will follow in the footsteps prints of Johannes V. Jensen at Memphis station. We shall listen to jazz and blues, meet local politicians, explore the famous cuisine, sail on the Great Mississippi River, and of course, visit Graceland; the home of eternal King of Rock’n’Roll, Elvis. You are in for a host of experiences that a standard tour of the USA will not provide.

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave! God bless the United States of America.

Attending a school where you could go mountain biking every Wednesday morning, sing together in the evening, travel out into the world, take an evening kayak trip – all together with your friends – was exactly what I needed.

Mads Emil

You should definitely join a folk high school at some point in your life! Nowhere else can you will you more about ypurself. But remember – the only thing you can be sure of is that it won’t be what you expected.

Albert

The community meant a lot to me. I knew there were always people there to catch me, join in the fun, listen, dance, swim in the lake, sing. The feeling of being one among many, as one unit, is indescribable.
