Craftmanship at Silkeborg Højskole

Craftsmanship carries within it a respect for and knowledge of materials, as well as hours of work spent mastering and refining the process in order to arrive at a unique product. But the joy of creating with one’s hands is something few experience today.

Craftmanship is a craft subject where we work with wood. We will learn to master the folding rule, saw, plane, and sandpaper.

We will enjoy the satisfying feeling of a perfectly adjusted plane that cuts beautiful shavings and leaves a smooth, even surface behind.

In class, we build a chair from sustainable materials - one you can take with you after folk high school, and which can later be thrown into the forest, where it will break down and become nourishment for the forest’s plants.
