Jewelry Design – Your Hands, Your Imagination, Your Personality

Art, design, and craftsmanship merge in this main subject in jewelry design. We work three-dimensionally and sculpturally with metals as well as more unconventional materials, combining them into completely personal expressions.

The Art of Jewelry Design is Evolving

In this main subject we explore a creative universe and an ancient craft. Jewelry is both an artistic form of expression and a craft in constant evolution, where tradition, function, and form are challenged by new trends in art, society, and our approach to materials and resources.

Edgy Creativity

You won’t just learn how to make jewelry – you’ll learn how to express yourself through it. Every piece tells a story, and in the process we challenge the definition of jewelry: what jewelry is and what can be expressed through it, how it can be worn, and what materials it can be made from.

Inspiration from the World Around Us

We search for inspiration and ideas in nature, contemporary art, cultural history – and the world you are part of. We visit the Danish Arts Foundation’s Jewelry Collection in Christiansfeld as well as relevant exhibitions and design workshops.
We work project-based with models, sketches, and various idea-generation and design tools.

Each session is based on a theme, and new techniques are introduced so that you are challenged and guided in new ways of expressing yourself. We work with metal – primarily silver, copper, and brass – but also with more unconventional jewelry materials such as found objects, fabric, yarn, wood, plastic – or whatever best expresses your idea.

There is room here for both wild experimentation and polished details.

Jewelry Design is for You Who

  • Love working with your hands and seeing ideas take shape
  • Are ready to think innovatively and work sculpturally and in 3D
  • Thrive with both fast experiments and slow processes
  • Are curious about how you can use jewelry as a personal and artistic expression

Your Creative Space

We will have a brand new and fully equipped jewelry workshop with space for 16 students. Here you will have access to professional tools, materials, and a calm working environment.

Please note: Jewelry created outside of course instruction will require a payment for materials.

Existential and Elective Subjects

At Silkeborg Højskole, we offer a wide range of subjects. The list of elective and existential subjects is dynamic, and new subjects are added to the menu each semester. Elective and Existential Subjects are chosen upon arrival, with a 1st–3rd priority system. We always aim to fulfill as many first priorities as possible.
